Focusing on Priorities
- Making Education a Top Priority
Facing the loss of billions of dollars in federal stimulus money that had been short-sightedly used for temporary education funding, Governor Corbett proposed a budget that reduced education funding too much – even below funding levels before the stimulus money came to our state. Warren opposed the Governor’s proposal and, working with other House members from both parties, worked to re-prioritize spending on education. Thanks to those efforts, Pennsylvania now commits more state tax dollars to basic education than ever before. - Providing Help to Those Who Need It
Warren also worked to ensure that the state budget provided services for those who need help in these difficult economic times by cutting spending on pork-barrel projects and other non-essentials. - Marcellus Shale
Warren worked in the House to build consensus on how to treat the emerging Marcellus Shale industry. In the end, he supported a compromise that will help those communities directly impacted by natural gas exploration while committing millions of dollars to statewide environmental protection and making regulation of the natural gas industry among the toughest in the nation.
